The City Builders Association, Rōpū Hanganga Tāone, is Auckland's merit-based civic think tank. We exist to turn the city's most consequential infrastructure and planning decisions into structured, accountable public debate, rather than leaving them to closed committee rooms and consultation fatigue.
This platform is the public face of that mission. It publishes Council Watch dispatches tracking decisions as they happen, a national Question Hub registry that frames the priority questions the next fifty years of growth will turn on, and an Advocacy & Policy registry of formal positions the Association takes on transport, housing, utilities, environment and council finance. Alongside the writing, it offers interactive tools: a transport network map, civic surveys, a directory of council and local board contacts, and an Urban Design Analyst that turns a street description into a structured design review.
It is built for engaged Aucklanders who want to understand decisions before they are made, residents, ratepayers, professionals in planning and engineering, community advocates, and the elected members who represent them. The Association itself is built and maintained by City Builders Association Limited, a non-partisan civic body working in Tāmaki Makaurau to make the case for better city-building on the evidence, not on alignment.
